INTRODUCTION:
CBAUSBK.BGL

This scenery file - cbausbk.bgl - contains the following structures:-

** At Karumba, the Civil Aviation of Australia (CAA) base for wireless communications (known as "aeradio" or "airadio") and aircraft servicing, consisting of the aeradio building, the staff quarters, a CAA flag and a transmission tower.
In addition to the custom-made structures I have added, from the stock Flight Simulator library, a jetty and small cargo vessel, which was used to bring supplies and fuel drums to the base.

** At Rose Bay, on Sydney Harbour, the terminal building which was constructed (like the base facilities at Karumba) for the Empire-route flying boat service, commencing in 1938.
The aeradio facility at Rose Bay occupied the upper floor of the building.
In addition to the custom-made terminal, flag-pole and transmission tower I have added the small jetty from the stock Flight Simulator library.

**In Sydney City, the distinctive art-deco style AWA office building and transmission tower, depicted as it was in the 1940's, with the original AWA sign.
The core of the structure is of steel and concrete pillars and beams and the exterior walls are of red-brown brick. The front and rear entrances (York and Clarence Streets) have surrounds of dark brown marble or granite.
The tower was (maybe still is) used by radio station 2CH for its AM broadcast service.
Built in 1938, this building was the tallest structure in Australia until the mid 1960's.
It is preserved under a heritage order.

INSTALLATION:

NOTE!
This scenery was created for the the third-party utility Abacus EZ-Scenery.
You should not need the utility itself in order to have these items appear in Flight Simulator 9.
However, if you want to make further use of, for example, the flying boat base structures (the CAA design was pretty much standard for the other remote locations in the tropics....Darwin, Groote Eylandt and Townsville) you will need such utility in order to do so.

PLACING THE FILES:
In the Addon Scenery folder are two sub-folders....Scenery and Textures.

1.

CREDITS and ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

All the custom-made items were created by citizen of the USA, Lou Frost, using Gmax.
All that I did was to provide Lou with information and photographs - he did the hard work and created magic with his computer. I am indebted to Lou for his original offer to assist me with Karumba and Rose Bay and for so willingly saying "Yes" when I asked later on if he would do the AWA building and tower. Thanks so much, Lou.

Research information and photos were gleaned from the National Library of Australia, in the case of the AWA building, and also the Australian Airways Museum and Civil Aviation Historical Society, whose site has the only photos I've come across of the Karumba and Rose Bay bases.
